This course is a part of AFCONE’s Programme for Strengthening the Nuclear Material Control Systems in Africa 2023-2027, that is implemented with expert support of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK), and it is made available thanks to the generous support of the European Union and the Government of Finland.

In a move to strengthen nuclear non-proliferation and promote the peaceful use of atomic energy across the continent and beyond, the Chairperson of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE), Mr. Gaspard Liyoko Mboyo, held a high-level meeting with H.E. Amb. Mohamed Edrees, Permanent Representative of the African Union (AU) to the United Nations. 

As the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) commenced at the United Nations Headquarters on April 27, 2026, the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) arrived with a clear, united voice: Africa demands meaningful progress on nuclear disarmament, legally binding security assurances, and the right to peaceful nuclear technology for development.

In an era where nuclear energy is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of clean energy strategies, the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) recently brought together a specialized group of Africa senior leaders, regulators, and industry experts for an Executive Leadership Workshop, designed to address the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the nuclear sector today. 

AFCONE joined Heads of States and Global Leaders during Nuclear Energy Summit France on 10th March 2026. The Summit was hosted by France and opened by President Macron together with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and attended by global leaders and representatives of more than 60 countries.
