The African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) has expanded high-level diplomatic talks with the U.S. Mission to the African Union (USAU), targeting enhanced collaboration on regional nuclear safety, non-proliferation compliance under the Pelindaba Treaty, and peaceful atomic applications for sustainable continental development.

The Finnish Ambassador to South Africa H.E. Pekka Metso hosted the African delegation attending the Nuclear Safeguard training from 19 African nations. The  uplifting safeguard project is supported by the European Union, and facilitated by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) and is aimed at equipping Africa States implement stringent nuclear material controls.
