AFCONE and DeepGEO sign a pioneering agreement – The African Nuclear Energy Funding Initiative (ANEFI), setting the stage for Africa to take the lead in resolving the perennial issue of radioactive waste at the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle. From the 22nd to the 23rd of January 2024, AFCONE convened the 4th session of the 5th Conference of State Parties to the Treaty of Pelindaba in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The conference was attended by 29 state parties and deliberated, inter alia, on the progress in the operationalization of the Secretariat, the Annual Report of AFCONE, the governance of the organisation. and the prospects of nuclear energy in Africa’s industrial and socioeconomic development.
