The African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) and the World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on technical cooperation to advance the safe, secure, and sustainable transport of nuclear and radioactive materials across the African continent.
The MoU is expected to open a new window of opportunities for WNTI members to engage with Africa’s growing nuclear sector, while at the same time reinforcing AFCONE’s mandate to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology in line with the Treaty of Pelindaba.
Through shared expertise, capacity building, and the promotion of international best practices, this partnership aims to uphold the highest standards of safety, security, and sustainability, benefiting both Africa and WNTI members in the global nuclear transport community.
