The African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) and the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) held a bilateral meeting in the margins of the 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria, to expand opportunities for African nuclear scientists to participate more actively in the field of radiological protection.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss strategic areas of collaboration and partnership in nuclear science and technology, with a focus on strengthening regional capacity, technical cooperation, and expertise development. The cooperation aims to enable African professionals to advance scientific knowledge and contribute to the development of legislation, technical guidance, and codes of practice in radiological protection.
The ICRP, an independent international body that provides science-based recommendations and guidance for the protection of people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, was represented by Dr. Olga German, Deputy Scientific Secretary.
