The African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Gaspard Liyoko Mboyo, held discussions with Mr. Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde, Acting Director of the Division for Africa, Department of Technical Cooperation at the IAEA, on the sidelines of the 69th IAEA General Conference.
The meeting focused on strengthening the AFCONE’s cooperation with the IAEA in the field of nuclear science and technology, with particular emphasis on expanding nuclear energy development, agriculture, food security, industrial applications, and human health.
The AFCONE Chairperson reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting and coordinating the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear science and technology in Africa for socio-economic development. He further emphasized the need for nuclear applications to ensure safeguards and strict compliance with the provisions of the Pelindaba Treaty.
