AFCONE Chairperson H.E. Gaspard Liyoko MBOYO installing Mr. Collins Omondi as the Acting Executive Secretary on 18thDecember 2025, South Africa
AFCONE announced the appointment of Mr. Collins Omondi as the Acting Acting Executive Secretary. The transition follows ending of term of H.E. Ahmed Bezeid Deida as the Acting Executive Secretary on 27th November 2025. However, Mr. Deida will continue to assume the duties of AFCONE Vice President.
H.E. Gaspard Liyoko MBOYO acknowledged the significant leadership and contributions of Mr. Deida during his tenure as AFCONE Acting Executive Secretary. The Chairperson took the opportunity to thank Mr. Deida for strong leadership, dedication and service that successfully stabilized AFCONE during tough times.

Mr. Omondi possess extensive experience and a track record having served as the Head of Nuclear Civil Application at AFCONE. In this position Mr. Omondi exemplified unwavering commitment, leadership and dedication to the African Nuclear Weapons Free Zone agenda. He was instrumental in implementing nuclear technical programs, promoting nuclear application and monitoring compliance among African State Parties.

Mr Omondi brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having been in the nuclear industry for over four decades. He has vast knowledge of nuclear policy development and implementation on nuclear power and scientific programs. Mr Omondi is a nuclear scientist and has published several research papers in various nuclear journals.
