The African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) is pleased to announce its new Executive Secretary, Enobot Agboraw, engaged from 1 July 2022. He succeeds Mr. Messaoud Baaliouamer of Algeria.
Executive Secretary Agboraw is a national of Cameroon. He has a master’s degree in nuclear reactor science and engineering from the University of London. He was previously employed at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and brings to the position over 30 years of rich experience in nuclear diplomacy. non-proliferation, and the promotion of peaceful uses of Nuclear Energy.
He is a staunch advocate for nuclear energy, and as Executive Secretary, he aims to focus initially on prioritizing cooperation between African States, operationalizing AFCONE, universalizing the African Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (Pelindaba Treaty), enhancing the Pelindaba Treaty’s legal framework, strengthening partnerships and mobilizing resources.
The overarching objective of Executive Secretary Agboraw is to foster peace, security and prosperity in Africa and beyond, through the effective implementation of the Pelindaba Treaty.
