AFCONE Communication to the AUC – UNODA-ICAN Meeting on the TPNW

The Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (AUC) organised on 10 March 2022 a Webinar related to Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

The AFCONE Executive Secretary presented a Communication informing the Gathering about the AFCONE Activities and highlighting the Importance of the Synergy & Coherency when  Considering the Accession and the Implementation of the Instruments related to Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (NPT, CTBT, African NWFZ and TPNW).

The African Countries are proud to have played a leading role during the negotiations of the TPNW, together with a vast majority of states and members of civil society, contributing to the process and the adoption of this Treaty and its entry into force on 22 January 2021.

The AU Member States are encouraged to participate to the First Meeting of the State Parties planned from 21 to 23 June 2022 in Vienna (Austria).
