AFCONE Briefing Report to the AU Peace and Security Council

(31 March 2022) 

The African Union Peace and Security Council has dedicated its 1071st Meeting held virtually on 31 March 2022,  to the Review of the Implementation of the African Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaty (Pelindaba Treaty)

The AFCONE Executive Secretary presented to the AU PSC Council a Communication recalling the Large Spectrum Mandate of the AFCONE, the Activities and Achievements.

Introductory Remarks and Opening Statements have been delivered by HE the AU PSC Chair and HE the AUC PAPS Commissioner.

The UNODA and CICR Representatives have briefed the Meeting about the Importance of the Pelindaba Treaty within the Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Global Agenda and the Role the AFCONE is Playing in Cooperation with the UNODA and the Other NWFZs & Specialised Agencies.
