African Women Contribution to Socio-Economic Development through Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy (AFCONE – AUC- WiN Africa Webinar

Despite (a) the development of the African Policy Framework (b) the AU Member States Commitment (c) the promotional efforts carried out in Africa by the IAEA and AFRA: the African Institutions and Organisations, including some Development Partners, are observing in 2020, a Low Participation of Women  in Natural Sciences in General, and Especially, in Nuclear Sciences and Technology and Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy. This Contribution is, according to AFRA Statistics, less than 30 %.

This meeting will enable the African Commission on Nuclear Energy, the “Women, Gender and Development Directorate (WGDD/ AUC)) and the Women in Nuclear Africa (WiN Africa) to: 

  • Highlight the leadership and Contributions of Women Experts in Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications to the Socio-Economic Development of their Countries and Africa through Safe, and Secure and Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy.
  • Encourage the Decision Makers in Africa to Implement the African Union Protocol, Policy, Strategy and Action Plan, in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy Programs,
  • Urge the National Programs and Projects Managers in Africa to ensure equal gender opportunities.
  • Develop a Road Map allowing (a) the Integration of more Women in Nuclear within the AFCONE and WiN Africa Experts Database, (b) the Creation of New National Chapters of WiN Africa
  • Facilitate the Effective & Efficient Contribution of Women in the Implementation and Management of Nuclear projects and programs
  • And Encourage the Youth to pursue studies, R&D in nuclear sciences and technologies and then embrace professionals’ careers in nuclear fields of activities.
